Dropping to 1 nap at 13 months...

DS used to have 2x 45 min naps without fail, he's now down to 1 nap and will sleep from 1.5 - 3 hrs.
He's a terrible sleeper at night and I intend to nightwean him (when I am mentally strong enough) but when I do I know he's going to up at 4:30/5am and I'll be tempted to shove a boob in his mouth to get him back to sleep.
Is it better to wake him say after 2 hrs so I can get him to bed at approx 715? It can take us up to an hour to get him to sleep, then he wakes approx every 2-3 hrs.
Any tips please?

13mo DS, non-sleeper extraordinaire, went down to one nap when he was about 10mo. It lasts anything from 20mins (yep...) to 1.5hrs, usually around noon.

Nothing has ever made his sleep better (not even night weaning...sorry) and I didn't think anything could make his sleep worse, but I discovered two things that did: letting any nap extend past 3pm and letting any nap last longer than 2 hours.

On the rare occasion that it does look like extending past two hours I shake my fist at his sleeping form, wanting to know why the fuck he can't sleep such long stretches at night I open curtains and start bustling so that he pretty much wakes up naturally and doesn't get too cross by the whole process. I'm so obsessed about not sleeping past 3pm either that I give car rides or walks in the pram after that time a very wide berth so he's not at risk of dropping off.

Elphaba your posts always make me chuckle Grin I also am pretty obsessive about naps, always have been (have ready shitty book on the subject) and to no avail. I think some of us just have bad sleepers that one day they'll grow out of.
Christ not a chance I'd let him sleep past 3pm, in fact I've moved that to 2:30pm cause he is such a sleep demon. Past 2 days i've woken him after 2hr nap, can't say last night was any better , but still. DH is currently in bedroom with him lying on his sweaty chest trying to get him to sleep. DS is having none of it and is shouting from the rafters. Where's me wine?
20mins for your 1nap? Shit. How do you wash/pee/cook/eat and all that stuff?

I work full time! Grin Only chance I ever get to pee alone is at work Hmm My morning shower, with DH away at the moment, includes DS splashing away at my feet, smacking the shampoo bottles over. Cooking - I batch-cook and freeze like a maniac. We're still getting through the stockpile I created before I went back to work in February (supplemented by the odd takeaway, natch Wink). Replenishing said stockpile is on this weekend's to-do list. Ten portions of shepherdess pie anyone?

Nothing to add that will help but I'm totally in same boat with DS 10 months. Doesn't sleep longer that 2 hours at night without waking up for fidget/cuddle/bottle. I'm beyond knackered and my plans for dc3 are becoming more distant! X
