13 month old wont sleep. Can't even do stage 1 of sleep training!

My 13 month old wont go to sleep on her own & hates her cot. We have tried gradual retreat. Even stage 1 with me right next to her cot leaves her hysterical.
Pick up, put down she just seemed to get more & more annoyed.
Any ideas?

Oh dear, this sounds really tough for you. My DD2 used to be a bit like this although she would settle with me next to her. Does she sleep in her cot during the night? Maybe it would help if she spent a bit of awake time playing in it so that she gets used to it a bit more. Or does she have any kind of comforter? DD2 seems to settle much better when she has a muslin to cuddle and chew. Sorry not to be more helpful.

We just bought a travel cot with a zip up so I can cuddle her in the cot and almost lie down with her to start with. Hoping that will prevent hysterics.

She currently falls asleep on my bed next to me. I don't feed her to sleep. Then we transfer her to cot. When she wakes in night, she calls out for me & is always unhappy.
She doesn't have any toy/ comforter that she is attached to yet.
Have tried to let her spend a bit of time in cot, but I'm not able to leave the room.
