Is 13mo waking early because he is sleeping too long in the day?

DS is 13.5mo. He has gone through patches of good and bad sleep. He was for a short time sleeping from 7.30-7.30/8am which is ideal, however we since a stomach bug last night we are revisiting the dreaded early morning rising and I wonder if it's because he is sleeping so much in the day due to the warm weather? He went to bed last night at 7.30pm. woke at 5am then dosed until 5.30. He napped again from 9.30-10.20 then again from 1.40 until 3.45. Is this just too much daytime sleep and should I wake him earlier or resist his morning nap hoping it might stop the early morning wakening?

It does sound like it may be a little too much sleep in the day, so I would try reducing the morning nap to just say 30 mins with a view to dropping it completely. My DD was doing something very similar at around 12 months and so I started to reduce then cut out the a.m nap. She's now 19 months and has a nap approx 12.45 to 3, I don't let her sleep longer so wake her at 3pm latest, I know several friends who find they have early waking issues if their DCs nap past 3pm too. This seems to mean she sleeps 7.15/30pm to around 7am which works for us. Obviously one size doesn't fit all where sleep is concerned, so I am sure plenty of people will disagree with me but I would definitely look at the morning nap first. Good luck.
