Can anyone else just not relax until dcs are asleep?!

DS is in his cot, and has been chatting and singing intermittently for AN HOUR. And will not drop off. I just cannot unwind whilst he's crashing about (he's 14 months). I know I'm incredibly lucky that he's just chatting, not screaming, but I'm still really on edge Hmm (I do have PND and anxiety which is probably not helping!)

I am exactly the same. DS is not singin nicely however hit crying and crying (he's 2 and suddenly does not like bedtime)

But I've always been anxious until he sleeps. Part of my pnd and anxiety too,

Urgh-I hate it! DH cooked me a lovely meal and I was too anxious to enjoy it Hmm

A bit tmi but when DD finally goes to sleep I find I need a poo. I assume it's because my stomach/bowels suddenly relax after being tense for hours.

Would he go to sleep faster if you went in? I am the same - on edge until they sleep so will help them along. Dd is great now - 19 months and sleeps very quickly.

To be fair DS is normally much quicker than this, 15 mins max. He's going through a real separation anxiety phase at the moment though and I've been massively busy with work, tonight was the first time I've put him to bed since Monday-and I think he was a bit over excited! Bless him. I've only got a week to go till the end of term and then he'll be sick of the sight of me!

I popped in a couple of times to offer him water and give him a cuddle, but he wasn't distressed so I figured best to leave well alone tbh! I think his room was quite hot, so I put his fan on...

Well-we had a rubbish night-he woke up and grizzled between 4-5am as I think he was too hot... He then slept in till 7.30, didn't want a morning nap and then refused to eat his lunch and had a massive overtired tantrum. I have now put him to bed and he's still bloody well talking to himself and not going to sleep! What is wrong with him?!?!?

He did settle off eventually and have a good nap at lunchtime. I think it's weather related as its very humid here and he's always struggled with that! I don't think it's teeth as he's not crying, just chatting and fidgeting, so not distressed at all. I may try some calpol at bedtime to rule that out. Smile

It's rubbish isn't it? The worst is when you think they've settled off and then they start up again. Ruins my dinner that does...

What about less clothes at bedtime? I've had to put dd in just a 1 tog sleep bag. She settles faster but later wakes cold!!

Have had the windows open with the fan on upstairs all afternoon, and it's not as humid today I don't think. I'll also won't bother with a vest and see if that helps.

Hi , can I join.... I'm clock watching all day in my anxious state till bath bottle and bed time , I agree the hot weather makes it harder , my dd is in a light sleep bag with the window open and her room still reads 24 degrees !!!

Now what I want to know is where are you people who are hot and humid!? Thermometer in DS's room is reading 19, same as it did back in January...

Having said that, it turned out to be quite stick here to! Ds woke in the night for the first time in months an I couldn't sleep well either. :(

Yes! And it makes me boil with rage when they won't settle! Even if I'm going out and leaving dp to it, I can't relax and enjoy myself knowing the baby is awake at home.

I feel (irrationally) that they have taken top priority all day- after bedtime is adult time. Could never keep young kids up late. I love my evenings.

yes me, but now they are 3 and 7 and rarely sleep before 9pm I have given up on trying to wait for them to sleep and now shut all the doors and switch off. If not I would drive myself mad. They do stay in their bedrooms and play though, so they are generally not disturbing us.

Mine are teenagers now and i still feel like this. Trouble is these days they are often awake when I go up to bed at 10-11pm.

Both of their rooms are directly above the lounge and I can hear every time they as much as move in bed so that on edge feeling is there all evening.

A couple of months ago we got headphones for the TV. It's great because it not only means that dh and I can watch at different volumes (he is partially deaf in one ear), but it also means that I can't hear that they are still awake.

I look back fondly at the days that they were in bed at 7pm.
