Why will 5mth baby now not want milk during the day but guzzles at night

My 5mth boy seems to reverted back to being a newborn - waking every 2hrs and drinking whole bottles of FF milk. He's not particularly interested during the day. I try encouraging him but obviously can't force feed him. It's no good trying to ignore him at night, he goes into meltdown if he doesn't get his milk.

What would be causing this? I think he is teething but why would this affect milk habits. HV has recommend I start giving him baby rice - he's a big, active boy.

My son is almost 19 weeks and has started doing the same thing. He's breastfed at the moment and on the 9th centile so don't think it's size related.

I'm not sure if it's to do with the sleep regression? He's waking more, so I'm feeding more to get him back off to sleep and then he's just not hungry during the day?

Like you I offer feeds often during the day only to be met with a baby pushing me away!

I think it is common at this age for them to be too distracted and interested by other things to feed in the day, so they try to make up for it at night instead.

if it is this, some possible solutions: turn the lights down low, put a muslin over him, basically try and ensure he only has the food to focus on! or, if bottle feeding, try to ensure he can see the room at the same time as feeding so doesn't have to choose between bottle or playtime iyswim.
