What age did your child have a pillow?

DS is only 10mo, but seems to want a pillow. If he sleeps in his cot, he rolls his comforter up somehow and puts his head on it, or if he sleeps in with us, he will try shimmy up the bed until he can rest his head on even the tiniest bit of pillow, or will only fall asleep with his head on my chest.

Have just given DS 19mo one. He did sleep on a cuddly toy or pile of muslins until pillow but I think 18mo min is advised for an actual pillow. IKEA have v thin ones for cots.

DS was under 1 when he first had one, I put it under the sheet though so he couldn't get his head under it

I've seen the ikea one, but wanted to see what the general consensus was before buying! I've been very cautious until very recently, using those air wrap breathable bumpers and no toys etc in the cot, so my instinct is telling me he is too young...

I like the idea of putting it under the sheet, I think I'll try that.

From being a baby - a Swedish baby pillow as she had reflux.

MajaBiene · 24/02/2013 22:33

About 12 months.

RunningOutOfIdeas · 24/02/2013 22:42

DD1 had one from about 10 months. She had a head injury and it was more comfortable for her. DD2 is 20 weeks and has a pillow. She is in a pavlik harness and also has reflux. The pillow is quite thin and stops the harness digging in to her upper back. The harness stops her rolling over so she can't end up face down on the pillow. I think it is also helping her reflux (also have head end of cot raised).

12 months but this was years back, you can get pillows like this one designed for very little ones now.

Ds1 not until he was 3yo ds2 (10mths) not for a long time as he likes to put things over his head Hmm

I am an advocate of every baby being differents and each mum knowing best, if you the he wants a pillow and he will be comfier deffinitely give him one, maybe nit adult size.
My DD always had a bed next to the cot, one day she decided she wanted to sleep there and there was a pillow so that was it, she was just over two.

sorry touch phone

Trazzletoes · 26/02/2013 07:04

DS probably around 18 months when he grew out of his sleeping bags.

I think advice is not before 12 months (obviously there are exceptions where it is necessary, as above though)

bonzo77 · 26/02/2013 07:05

When he went into a bed at 2.8

strawberrypenguin · 26/02/2013 07:08

12 months after he had cranial surgery so a pillow was more comfortable on his head. Got a designed for toddlers one

BeaWheesht · 26/02/2013 07:20
