I am a new, first time mummy. I have a 6 week old son who used to sleep for 4-5 hours at a time when BF, but now we have gone to formula, he is managing 3 hours at a push, which results in him being a little grumpier during the day. Consoling him has become harder and he routes for more food, even after the recommended 4oz feed. (recommended by health visitor)
Should I increase the feed? I read somewhere that giving a baby more food doesn't make them sleep longer. Obviously there is the constant worry that I may over feed him?
Can anyone offer any advise to get him back to his regular sleep pattern? I warm his bed feed, but he still wakes after a few hours. Am I doing something wrong? HELP!

Congratulations.

Doesn't sound to me like you're doing anything wrong, just that he's changing his patterns. He could also be about to experience a growth spurt too. They tend to sleep less ahead of and during one and then sleep improves again just after the spurt's finished.

Hope he settles again soon, but, to warn you, there's likely to be something similar around the ten week mark.

Thank you so much. It seems to me he sleeps better in the day. and he can go for 5 hours between feeds in the day, 3 hours in the night...
Thanks for the heads up for the 10 weeks!! He's a big lad at 12lb, so if it is a growth spurt...lol! My little chubster!!
Thank you for the advise! x
