my Ds4 is the youngest and is 10 months. he has never slept all night. i have tried on 3 separate occasions to sleep train him but got nowhere. Controlled crying just didnt work. he wakens at least every hour and is awake for the day between 5-6am.

i want to try sleep training again bu need a different tack. also he shares a room with DS3 who is 21/2.

please help before i admit myself to the local funny farm!

I don't have any advice I'm afraid, but wanted to let you know that you're not alone (please note the crazy time I'm posting!). My DD is 11 months, has never slept through and woke at 3 this morning. We gave up at 4.45 and came downstairs. She's been asleep in the buggy since 5 but now I'm wide awake and up for the day. We co-sleep and she still bf, and will wake a crazy number of times looking for a boob. I just keep reminding myself that it won't go on forever. Though if anyone has any magic tips, I might steal them too! Grin

Time for more Brew and to get out the matchsticks to prop my eyes open for the day...

Have you ruled out anything medical? Ears? Tongue tie? Food intolerances?

chubbymomie2012 · 07/02/2013 13:40

Lookalike rain, my DP reckons I'm addicted to coffee. Seems to me the only thing keeping me functioning. Iggly yes I have had him thoroughly checked out by GP. Who gives me a very sympathetic but hugely insincere hug and says don't worry it won't last forever. Aaaaarrereegghhhhhhh how long do u let it go on before you loose the plot???

Food intolerances are hard to pick up...! Is he a windy baby?

chubbymomie2012 · 07/02/2013 14:12

No he was never windy and actually quite often goes to sleep drinking a bottle. I sometimes think his will is just stronger than mine. I have bought a no cry sleep solution book on Kindle so will try that.

What about day naps? Does he get enough? And bedtime? Early enough? Must be hard with another toddler though.

chubbymomie2012 · 07/02/2013 15:36

Iggly do u think not enuff naps would make him wakeful at night?

Yes cos they get massively overtired which messes with night sleep.

I've just been on another thread and basically said the same thing but try looking for a thread called 'what worked for us' - it saved my sanity! Its basically the gradual withdrawal method, it is sleep training and they do get upset but you don't have to leave their side. My DS was 11 mnths when I did it, now 16 months and is a great sleeper. If we travel, he's teething or poorly or whatever we just wait til he's all better, I usually have him in with me and go to bed early, but when he's better we do it again and is easier subsequent times. The first night is tough then gets easier. If you're really at your wits end and something has to give then it might be worth thinking about. I'd never do cc or cio but this just didn't seem as horrible somehow and worked for us. Good luck x

ok ladies i have bought the book about no cry sleep solution and dp and i are gonna start implementing it tonight. just one more question when did u put your wee ones into a bed? be it toddler bed or single bed?

My LO wakes at least every 2 hours, I've resigned myself to the fact he's just not a good sleeper, whether in basket or our bed. He goes in his own room in a fortnight so I'm expecting to be even more knackeres up and down all night, especially when I go back to work. Blah, the things we do, eh?
