2 year old disturbed sleep due to newborn

Ds1 holds the title for the lightest sleeper in the world. Literally a gnat's fart will wake him. We've been creeping around our very creaky townhouse for the past 2 years in an effort not to disturb his naps/sleep. Rod for own backs-you betcha...

Since the arrival of Ds2, I have been staying in the bedroom below DS1's in an effort not to disturb him when the baby wakes for feeds. I notice on the monitor that DS1 invariable wakes anyway, and will spends HOURS awake. Either sitting up or rolling around his bed. He doesn't say anything/cry though. However, in the morning he is absolutely shattered, yet won't lie in. Typical wake up time 7am with a 45 min-1hr nap at 1.30pm. He won't nap any earlier, but I do wake him up from his nap. Bedtime's at 7.30pm.

Will he just get used to the noise? Does anyone have any experience of noise sensitive toddlers?

Hi Pink, we have the same age gap between our 2 children as you do (and a very squeaky house too-awful when you are desperately trying to tiptoe around!!). Are you sure it is the baby waking DC1? Would it be possible that you only notice that he has these stretches of awake time now that you are awake as well? Only saying that as my 2 yo is regularly awake at nighttime to practice talking etc, so might not be the baby who is waking your DC1 but just developmental?
