Getting co-sleeping 18m old and 7 yo to share a room - can it work?

DS2 is 18m old and sleeps in a bedside cot who am I kidding ... in the bed and his soon to be 7 yo brother has his own room.

We're having some building work done at the moment and will end up with extra room - I've been talking about the sleeping arrangements with DS1 and the options of them each having their own room, in which case whoever has the bigger room will have to be happy for the other to play in it too, or for them to share a room and then have a proper playroom.

DS1 says he wants to share a room; and he is mostly v sweet with his little brother, but I'm wondering if anyone's tried getting their LOs to share a room with this sort of age gap, and with a babe who's used to co-sleeping.

Any tips or shared experiences?

TIA
