Not that I want to start a competition but my DS averages at about 6 times a night. I sometimes seriously worry that there is something wrong with him. 9 months old and still no sign that we're going to get a full nights sleep. its knackering (understatement that I'm sure many of you will sympathise with.)

Oh dear, BBB. My ds is 8 months and is a great sleeper though will still wake if he needs a feed (at least I think that's why he wakes, who knows?) He slept 12 hrs last night but that's the first in about a week, on Sun night he woke 3 times but has only done that twice in his life. How much does he eat? Is he hungry when he wakes? Or unhappy?

PiccadillyCircus · 18/04/2006 20:35

DD is 7 months old. She always wakes at least twice (between 11pm and 7am) and it is often more.

At least DS generally stays asleep all night or I would be totally zombiefied.

kid · 18/04/2006 20:37

DD was a terrible sleeper and didn't sleep through the whole night until she was about 2.5yrs.

DS was a much better sleeper but only after we did CC with him at 13 months. He is now 4 and hardly ever wakes up during the night. I think its much easier to train them to fall asleep by themselves when they are younger (only because they can't get themselves out of their bed!)

shorty3 · 18/04/2006 20:38

dd is 10 month - still wakes 3/4 times a night. two feeds normally. She also decides to wake up at fiveish every mornng to play!

mosschops30 · 18/04/2006 20:42

sorry for you BBB Sad ds is a good sleeper, although we did have to do some controlled crying and a bit of Gina Ford (all that no eye contact stuff), he now generally sleeps about 12-14 hours, he's 15 months.

Is your ds waking for feeds or just wanting some love? Could you try some of the sleep techniques, its all horses for courses and you have to use whatever suits you best

bobblehead · 18/04/2006 22:20

Now usually only once a night but dd is then awake for around 2 hrs, then usually up between 5 and 6am.

Clayhead · 18/04/2006 22:41

BBB, my ds and dd were the same at 9 months.

We never did cc (we did do rapid return when ds was older though) but they both improved at around 13 months.

You have my sympathy! Smile

burstingbug · 18/04/2006 22:45

My ds is 14mths and he has been waking at least once a night for the past 8 weeks or so. He has been teething though, 4 back ones all at once. Thank god they're all through now. Not sure if he's getting more teeth again or if he's just got in to an awful habit of waking every night. Just hope he settles down again into his 11hr sleeps, it's wearing me out very quickly (I'm 24 wks pregnant!)

ShaysMummy · 18/04/2006 22:48

bibbabbob- mine sounds exactly the same as yours!
some nights its 3 times- bliss, most nights its 6! am 5 months preg too!- real knackered!

dh suggested i take him to doc but i think he is teething.
also, just lately, he is eating less in the day and seems to make up for it with milk in the night.

mumfor1standfinaltime · 18/04/2006 22:50

Feeling for you BBB, must be hard. Sorry cant offer advice, ds has slept through night from 6 weeks.
When he wakes, does he cry? Does he want a feed?

SleepyJess · 18/04/2006 22:56

About 5 - 6 times a night and he is nearly 6. :( He has various SN but there is no medical reason that is known the bloody, poxy night waking.

CorrieDale · 19/04/2006 08:01

We're like Bobblehead. Just once but it's a doozy!!!! Mind you, better than last week when we night-weaned him, when I'd be up 2-3 times. Once for 2 hours.

Erm.... I can hardly believe I'm typing this but.... DS slept through last night. No kidding. 4 days shy of 10 months and he goes and does it, just as I was bracing myself for at least another month. What did we do that was different? Well, the night-weaning started Easter Saturday and now he doesn't seem bothered about being fed at night. He eats more now during the day and we tank him up at tea-time - not easy with baby led weaning, but we find that weetabix in his fruit and yogurt is a great filler. And finally, and this was new last night, I tuned the radio out and left it on all night. I really do think that the white noise helped. Anyway, we'll see what happens tonight, but I thought that other sufferers might want to tinker with white noise.

7up · 20/04/2006 06:54

ds 18months old wakes approx 4-5 times, up to hourly wakes on a bad night like last night and now ive got to go to workSad

BibBabBob · 20/04/2006 11:10

thanks everyone. seems i'm not the only one.
KVG- i'm interested in your comment about BF and co-sleeping being linked to more wakings. We do both too as its the easiest way of maximising the sleep we get and we all quite enjoy it. but if i seriously want to improve our sleeping habits perhaps i should start putting him in his cot. hmmm a tough one.
