Anyone moved toddler from cot to bed at 18months

I am thinking of moving dd2 into a bed soon as I am sure she keeps waking herself up when she bangs into the sides of her cot when she turns over. has anyone else managed this successfully at this age? Did you use a bed guard or something else? Thanks

My friend did this, possibly a bit younger than 18 months, for the same reason.

She used a cot guard (try cheap one from Ikea) and her dd slept much better.

Watching with interest as DS is only 10 months at the moment, but putting him in his cot (no drop sides) is doing my back in and I can't wait to put him in the cot bed (although obviously not yet before I get flamed!)

We've just put DD2 into a bed (yesterday first day) and she is 21 months so a little older' but so far so good. She got out a few times yesterday at bedtime, but slept through fine. Tonight didn't get up once :)

She's in a room with her sister so she's obviously enjoying being like her big sister :)

I would definitely get a bed guard.

I did this with DD and it took about 6 months before she settled in her bed. If I had my time over, I would have waited longer but as others have already posted it can work really well.

DS went into a bed at 18 months - he had a bed guard on the side for a couple of months, and a gate on the door. He fell asleep on his floor in the middle of playing the first few nights though Grin Other than that he's been fine, only fell out once!

Ds1 went into a bed at about 21 months as DS2 was imminent and we just used a bed guard. He was fine, no trouble at all, but we are very lucky as he's a good sleeper and pretty compliant so didn't keep getting out of bed. We picked out duvet covers he liked and really talked it all up, so he thought it was the bees knees being in a big bed! Good luck, OP!

I did this. At 10mo. Blush

We used a bed guard. DS never slept a single second in his cot (and vaulted out of it) but has always liked his single bed just fine. He is now 2.4 and still has bed guards.

My DC2 has been sleeping/napping in "my" pull-out bed in his room for a few months - he is 16mo. He has maybe slept a handful of nights in his cot since he was born, it is too narrow for him as he likes to move about in the night.

We have taken the side off his cot as of a month or so ago and it is next to the bed, at the same height, so he can't fall out (other side of the bed is against the wall) but he always gets out of his cot and spends the rest of the night asleep on the bed itself.

No bedding other than fitted sheets.

He can get down off the end of the bed by himself.

At the moment he's been unwell so I still sleep in his room quite a bit, and he ends up sleeping on me or cuddled into me, but I am confident he would be fine without me here, as he has been when we've tried it.

I moved DD1 out of her cot at 18 months as she was climbing out of it. Because she was all over the place when sleeping, I put her on a mattress on the floor rather than in a bed because i knew she'd be falling out every 5 minutes. She has a gate in the door. It's been fine. I often find her on the floor and she does someetimes wander round a bit before settling to sleep but I've had no major problems.

Thanks everyone. Think I will get a bed guard and go for it!
