HELP! My 8m old can't breathe at night, what do I do?

He has just cut his first 2 teeth and has come out in a cold with it.
His nose streams green and nasty all day but it tapers off into the evening.
Once he's been in bed about an hour, he wakes up snuffling, then crying.
He has a warm bath every night then I put Vaporub on him, front and back, and some on the front of his jammies. He also has Medised before his bath so it has a chance to get to work- apparently it eases breathing, aiding restful sleep.
I have tried to prop him up a bit to help but he doesn't like it as he sleeps on his side, not his back.
What else can I do?
I'm 4.5m preg so need as much kip as I can get!!
HELP!

Have you tried saline drops followed by nasal aspirator? Worked really well with mine.

do you have a karvol room vapouriser? one just plugs into the wall and fills the room with eculiptus type smell. Also saline drops up nose. hope he's ok

Rather than Vaporub, try a Karvol capsule(orOlbas Oil) sprinkled on a muslin and tied round one of the cot bars.

Or a couple of drops of lavender oil in the bath - that really helps them to sleep.

Poor you and ds

With DS when this happens I sit with him in the bathroom with the shower and hot tap running as hot as I can get them and the room fills with steam (v small bathroom!) which really clears him up, at least for the next few hours.

You have to do it for at least 20 mins though and it is soul-destroying sitting there in the middle of the night with the shower pattering away and DS sniffling and half-asleep... those are the moments I think I SO WANT TO BE ASLEEP!!! :)

But it reallly does work.

I use a nasal spray that has sea water and camomile in it. Works brilliantly. Turns any muck up their nose into a liquid immediately and it comes out. You may just have to wait a minute or two after you have sprayed to clear the mucus away, but it works wonders.
Its called Chamiflor Ocean. This is in South Africa, so don't know if you can get exactly the same in the UK. Good Luck.
