6 month old won't sleep for more than 20 minutes during the day

My nearly 6 month old has 4 or 5 naps a day of 20 minutes. She awake from her 'cat naps' alert and happy. But I barely have time for a leisurely bowel movement.

Is this likely to change and if so, when?!

Pph had a similar prob recently, hang on

can't find it, the search things isn't working properly. Have you tried a rocking thing?

morningpaper · 23/03/2006 09:15

can't find it either

she doesn't really enjoy movement much so I don't think it will help - she won't sleep for more than 20 minutes if we are out shopping or in the car etc.

I am really just hoping she will 'grow out of it' but I wonder when this might happen...

she seems quite happy with 20 minutes, I have tried showing my boob in her mouth but she just laughs and rolls over

(much like DH these days)

MP - Becky is the same - but we only have 3 cat naps of 20-30 mins per day..... its a bloody nightmare, especially with a rowdy toddler on the loose too.

I have found a walk in the buggy usually makes her sleep longer, but my energy levels are in the toilet right now, so unless i HAVE to go out, i dont!!

morningpaper · 23/03/2006 09:21

yes it is a pain the arse

I am starting to hate mummies whose babies sleep for 2 hours in the middle of the day

why don't they get jobs, lazy women - all that free time

lol....

Jess sleeps for an hour at lunchtime, but Becky has never slept that long really (unless you count 11-12 hrs at night)

She got up at 8.45am, and wont sleep now until about 12 if im lucky!

MJ did not nap for more than 20 mins at a time during the day until I started weaning him. The first time he had an hrs nap, I didn't know what to do with myself! I kept reading how babies would nap for an hr or more, and wondered what was wrong with mine!? I'm sure your little one will grow into longer naps sooner or later - and trust me I know that it probably doesn't help to hear that right now - I type this at midnight waiting for MJ to go to sleep, remembering that I was up from 3am to 5am last night!

Oh I'm another with a cat-napper.. ds 28wks doesn't sleep longer than 20 mins either - just about long enough to iron a skirt and shirt and slap a bit of make-up on!

Have you tried a mid-day bath? ds sleeps a little longer if he's had a daytime bath with me. Not something you want to be doing all the time as it's such a disruption but kind of works if I've got phone calls to make etc
