Gina Ford question about routine

OK - for those Gina Forders out there, can you answer a question for me please? I have been looking at the NCLBB and the routines in there, and I was wondering how often they work as she says? My daughter is 9 weeks old today, and to be honest her natural routine is not very different from the 2-4 weeks one Gina has. BUT my baby has trouble staying awake for more than about 70 minutes at a time (including the time she takes to feed). If I try keeping her awake after she has yawned and started to complain then I end up with a hysterically unhappy baby on my hands. Is this unusual - to be getting tired so quickly?

Hi my ds is 5 weeks old and I am roughly following GF. I say roughly because like you he can't stay awake for the times she states. I've stopped worrying about it, he obviously need sthe sleep at the moment and he sleeps really well at night. i suppose it only becomes a problem if they're not sleeping at night as a result of spending too long asleep in the day.Obviously we've just got sleeier babies, which after dd who never slept is a bonus. Enjoy it and take Gina with a pinch of salt!!

I have been following Gina Ford's book for about 8 months and the only thing that I regret is not having used it since the very first day (it's great for stimulting the production of milk in preparation for the third week growth spurt). And agree with you, the most difficult thing about the routine is to keep the babies awake, specially during the first couple of months, but the effort really pays off!!
What I have done was to try to keep him awake but if I couldn't, I just ensured that the sum of the nap times didn't exceed the total recommended for the day. Good luck
