Please can you help me get a plan to get my 18mo to nap in her cot?

She's always been a rubbish napper - never more than 40 minutes as a baby. About six months ago, I discovered that if I just let her nap on me, while bfing, she'll sleep for a couple of hours, and is much happier child all day.

If I feed her to sleep and then put her in her cot (which is what we do at night: she usually sleeps through, and can mostly self-settle if she wakes up) she either wakes up immediately, and angry, or else she sleeps for 20 minutes and then wakes up, again pretty angry.

So I've mostly been letting her sleep on me, just seemed easiest. But now I'm pg and tired and sensitive and I don't want to have her suckling/on me for two hours any more. I've tried putting her in her cot awake, but she gets so cross that she ends up wide awake and/or I end up feeding her to sleep again.

I think I need a plan, and to stick to it consistently, but not sure where's best to start. Has anyone gone from this to a happy, cot-napping toddler? What worked for you? Thanks very much in advance.

Have you tried feeding her in your bed and then both going to sleep?

Yeah, I'de just have the nap with her.

By the time number 2 arrives, she may have outgrown naps, or be ok on her own.

You could try the No Cry Nap Solution (Elizabeth Pantley) for gentle sleep encouragement!

A shared nap sounds like a great idea! Far better than the housework I had in mind. Will look up the No Cry Sleep Solution too. Thanks, both of you.

Compromise and buggy nap? Can rock her to sleep?
Not always what you want to nap together Nd won't be able to when baby comes so try buggy, maybe in garden whilst weather nice.

Another one suggesting a buggy nap.
Feed, into buggy in a dark room and push.to sleep. Another thing which works for us is to go in after 35mins and push the buggy for.a.few mins. It stirs them.out of one cycle and settles them.into another.
