Long morning nap and short afternoon nap?

Dd is 8mo and seems to like a long morning nap (1.5hrs) and the a little (45min or so) PM nap.

Everywhere tells me she should have a short am nap and a long nap after lunch. Why? Should I try and jig them around?

My dd also doed this on lots of days. She's 8mo too. E.g today she just had a 1hr 20mins morning nap, then this afternoon I'm sure she'll only have about 45mins nap. I think 'they' say this cos some babies might not be able to make it til bedtime with shoty PM nap. What sort of routine/schedule is your LO on? How's her night sleep?

Her nighttime sleep is excellent - down at 6.30 after bath and bottle, wakes at 6am for milk then goes back down til 7.30. Usually back down at 9.30-11 then 2.30-3.15.

Im a bit of a lazy so and so so lounging round in the morning, chores etc, works best for me too, and we go out in the afternoon for lunch or after lunch.

Usually Ill take Her out for an hour about 4pm either for a play in the park or to my DMs.

I was just concerned that I should swap the naps though I wouldnt know how to haha

My son (8mo) also prefers this pattern. I usually wake him from his morning nap even though he hates it because 45mins over lunchtime means he really struggles to make it to anything like a reasonable bedtime (difficult enough even WITH his longer nap at lunchtime) so he wakes up a lot overnight and/or gets up really early. But if your daughter's fine on it then I'm sure it doesn't matter!

Thanks GND. Sounds very similar to my dd!

Porpentine - What time does your ds have his naps? Just wondering if I should wake my dd after 45mins in am as somtimes she struggles to make it to BT.

Altho on some occasions when she does have short am nap she then only has 45mins pm too so am a bit worried to do that!

I try to giver her nap times at 9 or 9.30am then 1.30pmish.

Madallie - Yes, I was a bit worried about cutting the morning one in case he had a short afternoon one as well but it doesn't happen much anymore, not sure why not. We're v similar to you: morning nap 9-945 and afternoon 1-2.30, but I'm currently trying to push the second one back a bit to 115 or 130 in the hope that he'll sleep longer - has worked a couple of times.

Porpentine thanks for that. When I feel brave enough think I might try cutting her 1st nap to 45mins (maybe next week when DH is off for 5 days - just in case it all goes pear shaped!). I think maybe I will need to give it a few days for it to take effect. I always panic after one day thinking routine will go to pot if she has a few off days. Guess it may just take time for her body clock to adjust to this.

Did you find you had to give it a while or was it pretty instant for her to fit into this pattern?

Is you son a good night sleeper?

Also what do you do if you have to go out etc. Does he nap well in pushchair?

Sorry for all the questions. Hope you don't mind!
