What time should a 9 year old go to sleep?

My dd (9) goes to bed at 8 pm, reads till 9pm and then it is lights out. We do ' all the right things' re routine and calm etc... No tv after 7pm, warm bath, no bad foods or drink, but often she is still awake at 11.30. She likes her room totally dark and I fail to see why she can't get to sleep. Any tips? Thanks

Is she going to bed at 8pm in the holidays pixie? Our DS is 8 and is going to bed a little later. He does go to bed in termtime between 7.30 and 8 although he goes later on cubs night and sometimes at the weekend. Last night he stayed up till 9 because he wanted to watch the Great British Bake Off.

We have been taking ours out after tea, either in the garden or out cycling/scootering or to the park, just to wear them out. After their tea, an hour outside and then bath, books, bed they have been going straight off. Does she get much outside time?

Have you asked her why she can't sleep? What is going through her mind?
