crawling and sleep disruption - how long is this going to take?

My 10MO dd started crawling on Monday last week.

Before that she'd settle to sleep very easily after our routine at about 7pm, and sleep through to ~6-630am.

She also had a 2 hour nap in the morning (in her pram) and she could do anything between an 30mins - 1hr in the afternoon depending on whether we were in the car or her cot.

The last three days she's suddenly only gone 30mins in the morning. Wakes up properly and won't go back to sleep. Afternoon naps have coincided with horrendous screaming meltdowns and not much sleep regardless of whether we are in the car or using her cot.

And it has suddenly become harder to settle her at night. Last night she woke crying every 30mins until 10pm then, thank god, she slept through. This is so unlike her. We thought it was because she might be overtired from lack of her usual sleep in the day.

Her eyes look tired - redness, circles underneath them and crankiness.

This has just happened in the last three days. She appears to not be teething and has no temperature so we assume it must be crawling and developmental.

Is this temporary? How long does it take for them to usually adjust?

Surely she hasn't dropped her naps from 2 hrs to 40mins just like that?

The reason why I am so concerned is - apart from the fact its hard to cope with - I work at home and am so behind on my work and barely coping as it is. Her nap times were the one time I could work, and I am frightened for our income. Can't afford nursery and have no family/friends who can help (they all work full time).

Feeling very very desperate and out of control.

Also scared... up until she was 6mo we barely slept because she was unwell so we know how bad things can really get......

When my DD started crawling a little while ago, she did the same thing at night. it only lasted about 3/4 days and then everything went back to normal.

I think there is a book called "Wonder Weeks" or something. I haven't got it, but I think the general message is that there are certain weeks of a baby's life in which big developmental leaps happen and this can disrupt sleep for a short period. hopefully someone else a bit more knowledgeable will be along soon to tell you properly.

Good luck. I found it all very stressful and worrying but it was very short lived.
