2 year old who won't go to sleep

Anyone else out there had probs with a 2yo suddenly not wanting to go to sleep? Every time we put him in cot he screams and cries. It's taking at least an hour and a half to get him to sleep every night. We have to keep going in and reading him another story. Clearly have built rod for back now as he knows if he screams we'll come in :(

Hot weather has also played havoc with him. Last night only way we got him to sleep was by DH sleeping in room with him. Cannot face the thought of having to do sleep training again...

em152 what does his daytime routine look like i.e. wakeup time, naptime & length & bedtime?

I believe there is a sleep regression at around 2yrs old & both naptime & bedtime resistance is common. But screaming like that & taking forever to get him to sleep may also be a sign that he isn't tired enough to go to sleep when you are putting him to bed. If he's still taking a big nap of say 2hrs I'll bet my life that's the issue.

We have a similar situation with my almost 2yo DS so I can sympathise. he is not screaming (yet) but he is def taking a long time to fall asleep. BT yesterday was 30mins but nap today was 1hr. I have already tried cutting back his nap, but for DS it didn't make enough difference to his night unless I cut the nap back hard (to say 1hr) but then he was shattered all day and overtired by bedtime, so for now, the longer nap is staying & we are suffering the later bedtimes until we get to the stage you are at & then we will start to cut the nap back again for sure.

Same boat!!
Nightmare to get to sleep, usually not before 9pm now. Then he wakes at 3-4am crying. We get him in bed with us and all of the sudden he wants to play!

Back to bed he goes and cries. Been like this for over a week. Have read that at 2 they have sleep regression?

Last night I had to turn off baby monitor and shut bedroom doors because enough is enough (was at 5am after 2 hrs of faffing around!)
