Anybody got an 18 month old who still has two naps?

I thought I could cope with sleeping issues! She's number three, none of them have been good sleepers but I am confounded.

Dd3 was bad enough before but since we moved to the Middle East with resultant heat issues she's even worse.

she's been napping twice a day (I think the heat knocked her out initially) but night time sleep has been getting worse. So I tried one nap yesterday which resulted in her being asleep by 5.30, awake 7.30-10.30, awake 12-1 and up for the day at 5.30...

I know the naps are part of they key to solving this but I'm not sure what form the naps need to take!

Have you tried looking at the baby whisperer forums? They have lots of sample routines.

The general idea for moving from 2 naps to 1 is either to shorten the first nap and bring the second earlier, gradually. Or to move the first nap later gradually and make it longer.

We currently have a half hour morning nap as if it is any longer he has early wakenings. His second nap is usually 1.5 hours. But Ds is only 14.5 months.

I second the baby whisperer forums, they are great on routine. How long are the naps at the moment? I would try capping the first one at 20 minutes (and making sure it's not too close to getting up time) and then moving the second one to about 1pm and then doing bedtime at around 7pm and see how you go with that.

Mind you, I have no idea what I'm talking about otherwise my daughter wouldn't consistently be waking at 5.30am every morning so feel free to ignore my advice!

My 19mo has an hour in the morning and two hours after lunch. I thought that was quite normal

Is there any way you can keep her awake till 7pm and not let her drop off at 5.30?

was just wondering about 18mo naps. DD (18 mo) sleeps 7.30 / 8pm through til 8am at night and during teh day naps for 1 - 1.5 hours at nursery (middayish) but at home that nap will last 2 -2.5 hours...
