Nearly 5 year old - still in night nappies and now has thrush!

...but has developed penile thrush so nappies have to come off to air. However keeps wetting himself whilst asleep and last night two times. Two bed changes in night which was very upsetting for him. His body is def not ready but if I put him back in nappies the thrush will return.

My worries...he has been a good sleeper and now this is really upsetting him. I tried the waking up to wee but that makes him cry and really stressed out and anyway sometimes he is already wet in bed when I go to him around 11PM.

ANY advice really appreciated!!!

Haven't posted in years and this is really worrying me now.

Regards

Is he drinking a lot before bedtime? Some don't have full bladder control at night until this age so I wouldn't worry too much. My GP says they don't investigate until 6th birthday. I would just limit drinking before bedtime to try and control the accidents and his distress.

We used a bed wetting alarm which has a sensor that clips on their pants and has wire running up to a wrist watch type device. The wrist watch makes a loud alarm when the kid starts doing a wee (which prompts them to get up - and the parents to do the same and help).

The first week was hellish, and like having a new born again in terms of disturbed sleep, but you must stick with it and things are easier after the second week.

It is not easy, and does not always work for all kids, but ended in brilliant for us!
