Arms reach cot 2nd hand- new mattress required?

Hello, I,m not sure if this is in the correct topic, but it is all to do with my general lack of sleep!

I have just bought an Arms Reach cot from a well known popular auction site (!) and am thinking about getting a new mattress to protect against SIDS. Although I haven't seen it yet I am told the mattress is the base, all in one. I think it is like a standard travel cot with a wipe clean mattress/base. Does this mean I need to get a new mattress or as it is covered in plastic, does that mean it will be safe for my baby?

I have looked at baby mattress online and it seems they could make one to fit which would probably be more comfortable anyway. But what are the thoughts out there on mattresses?

Many thanks for your help in the quest for sleep.

Hi - I used one of these and the instructions state you should NOT use a mattress other than that provided - it is exactly like a travel cot mattress - not at all comfy in my opinion!! and wipe clean/non porous.
