My child needs significantly less sleep than I do...

don't know how this is possible but dc3 needs much less sleep than I do!
Older 2 dcs slept normally (as in woke in night for feeding/when ill etc but generally slept at night and had some form of nap). Dc3 (10 months) just doesn't seem to need much sleep!

Typical day is up at 7am ish, awake all day with 1 or 2 brief (ie 15 mins ish) naps, usually this brief shut eye is multi tasked with a breast feed, so will snooze while feeding and wake up as soon as I move when finished.
Will fall asleep usually sometime between 9 and 10pm at night.
Wakes up at 2am and 5am every night (I stopped the night feeds a couple of weeks ago but still get wake ups at exactly the same times regardless!!) then wake up for the day again at 7am.
If for any reason bedtime us earlier than 9pm (occasionally there will be no 15min snooze in the day and so falls asleep at 7 or 8pm) then we are up raring to start the day no later than 5am!

There is no indication that any more sleep is needed at all! No grumpiness, no yawning, etc, all thetime she is awake she is cheerful, grinning and very active.

I go to bed as soon as she does at night and yet I am still exhausted every day. How is this possible when she isn't?!

I go out in the car, with buggy etc during the day and she does not fall asleep on the journey usually! So def doesn't need a day time nap!

I am afraid I have no help for you, just sympathy! DD (12 months) is the same. She wakes up every two hours at night and hardly ever bothers to nap during the day. I have tried various suggestions from various books and advice but I am coming to the conclusion that she just doesn't need to sleep as much as I do...SOB!

You have my sympathy. Dd is 3 and a half now and has never slept all that much. Up until she was about 2 she still woke 10 times a night or so, still capable of that now but since she was 2 it has gradually got better (with some hideous patches). She got a little better when she started nursery, sometimes she sleeps through the night! I'm not really expecting more improvement til she starts school now.
