post natal insomnia, but not every night

Hello, my DS is 4.5 months now and I seem to be getting bad boughts of post natal insomnia about twice a month. For pretty much the same nights each month I simply cannot get back to sleep after the first breast feed. It's awful but not as bad as what I've read when people get it all the time. The monthly pattern makes me think it's related to my monthly cycle but question how this can be given that my periods haven't restarted yet. Has anyone else had this? If so, did you get any treatment? Im thinking of going to the GP as even though it's not happening every night it's really knack wring on top of the normal broken nights!

Have a crack at 5htp- available from health food shops- it's natural serotonin and can help with allowing you to keep in that kind of low, fuzzy feeling when you get up in the night and then back into bed without such a 'buzzy' head. It's worked well for me- take it a couple of hours before you go to bed.

Thanks, I actually took it ages ago, pre-parenthood, for headaches after having it recommended and it was very good for that too. Do you know if it's ok to take it when breastfeeding?

Just checked my bottle- it says 'not advisable if pregnant or taking fenfluramine'- but that's all! Huzzah!
