A few weeks ago I noticed my DD (17 weeks) pulling her blanket over her face then falling asleep. This was during the day, I don't have set nap times for her. She just catnaps during the day.

We have now just had a major meltdown, 40 mins of screaming her heart out. Clean nappy, fed an hour ago, eventually I have just lay her down on my knee and put a blanket over her and she is out like a light in 2 mins. Should I let this continue? I just put her in cot last week, which is working out fine, but 2 or 3 times I have went to check on her and she has pulled her blanket over her face. I know it is a comfort thing but I'm terrified she is going to suffocate!!

Is it like a cellular blanket? They r more breathable. A dummy is also supposed to help an the handle bit means that it's not directly over the mouth and nose. You could always try to tightly tuck in the blankets so she can't pull them up and if ur laying her feet to foot she can't wriggle under them. How about providing her with a blankey to snuggle up with ( hopefully not over her face :( ) only other suggestion would be a grow bag she woulnt need a blanket then :(

She has a dummy already, never thought about that making a gap. She is in a gro bag and feet-to-foot, she still needs a blanket tho or she wakes up in the night. It does tend to be cellular blankets but she has a comfort blanket which is super soft fleecy, she does it with that too.

if its a cellular cotton blanket she will be fine! she could wriggle and get it off her face if she wanted. my ds4 has always been the same and still sleeps with a blanket over his head now and he is 4! its always been a cotton cellular one, its the one he had from a baby and is now rather manky, despite me washing it etc, he pulls it over his head and sucks his thumb, he has a very particular way of fiddling with it as well! i was a bit worried when he was little but he was always fine, its a very common thing for babies to do :)

Thanks madthings, good to know its not just mine. The first night she done it my heart was in my mouth, I ripped th blanket off her face thinking the worst and woke her up. Settles her really fast so I will just have to let her get on with it.

I always used to find my dd with her face buried in her blankey it was even more of a worry given she was and still is a tummy sleeper. She pulls her hates down over her face too to sleep in the buggy :) think babies r programmed to try and worry their parents as much as possible.
