If it is a kind of "mind running overtime" insomnia, I recommend limeflower tea. You can buy it loose in health food shops, or in boxes of teabags (usually chamomile and limeflower, which is fine). It more effective than you'd expect. Anything with valerian in it is also helpful for promoting sleep - again, you can get teabags with it in from health food shops. I'm currently using a tea by Heath and Heather called "Night Time" which is very good. I've suffered with terrible anxiety attacks at night, and depression, and the "racing thoughts" syndrome... I wouldn't have thought herbal remedies and teas would have been any use, but they are. I also find that rather than panicking and tensing up at the thought of trying to go to sleep, it helps if I make up my mind that rest is almost as good as sleep, take deep slow breaths, close my eyes and try to consciously relax each part of the body in turn while visualising a scene which makes me feel safe/happy. I hop your DH finds some relief from this, insomnia really does compound depression.

my Dp has always had trouble sleeping, and he tried valarian tablets from the health food shop, they seemed to work.
