Sudden night time waking with lots of crying!

My 8 month old DD has always been a good night time sleeper (daytimes are another story!) and has STTN since about 5 months. If she wakes, she's a good self soother and hasn't really ever been one to cry.

I think I've probably had it too good! Last week, we moved her in to her own room. The first night was a bit of a trauma to get her to sleep, but for the next 3 nights, she slept like a dream - and slept in a bit longer in the morning which was fab.

Then on Friday night, it all changed! She woke up at 11pm screaming and really fretfull and it took me 2 hours to get her to settle. She did the same thing at 5am. Saturday night, she woke up crying/screaming 4 times, then last night we had the same again. She was so upset the first time that she woke last night that I thought she might be sick. I'm sure it's related to her going into her own room and prob separation anxiety because she calms down, then cries again as soon as I leave the room. I don't think it's hunger as last night, she had 9oz before bed at 7.30pm and woke up the first time at 8.00pm.

Just wondered if anyone else had experienced this and what I'm best to do? I ended up sleeping in her room last night so I could be on hand to comfort her but obviously can't do that forever! I also sat next to her cot until she went back to sleep, but am conscious that I don't want to start a bad habit.

Thank you
