3 year old waking several times a night- HELP!!!!

My ds (3) has been waking several times a night for the last 8 months. Previously he slept well. We have tried everything (I think)... stair gate, going in and resettling with no eye contact, leaving to cry, letting him come up to our room, putting him in with his older sister, sleeping in his room, night light, rewards... you get the picture.
Has anyone else had the same problem and does anyone have any solutions? We are getting slightly desperate!!
Thanks x

Long shot and I'm the last person to be advising about sleep problems but could he be cold? Is he kicking his covers off? I only mention because it's the only thing that has been waking DC1 up recently.

We did wonder about that and bought a very large baby sleeping bag! He hasn't worn it yet. His main thing at the moment is that he is scared though. Last two nights I have told him not to shout and just to come to our room and get into bed quietly if he is scared. He has come in both nights, but settled straight away and so not disturbed us too much. This may be the way forward for the time being I think...
