Newborn only waking once at night: worried or lucky?!

DD is 5 weeks old, the last few nights she's kept from 11pm til 6.30 with only one waking, when she's not really fed much but needed a nappy change. Am I lucky to have. Good sleeper or should I be worried? During the day she feeds much more and spends lots of time awake but does also sleep, often not more than 2 hours at a time though. What do you think? Am I being overly concerned?!

Lucky.

But you know that now you've posted this, she will wake every 2 hours, don't you?

Is she putting one weight? If yes then enjoy your sleep. No guarantees it'll last Smile

My first 2 dc were like this, slept through consistantly from 6-8 weeks.

dc3 started off the same, 7-7 by a few weeks old. Now at 16 months she is an awful sleeper. Regularly up for 2-3 hours a night or starting her day at 5am.

I would just make the most of it as there is no guarantee it will last.

My DD was the same. I was waking her up to feed at 3am and at my 6 week check I told my GP I was doing this. He was completly aghast and told me that if she wanted to feed she would let me know. So I stopped and she slept through.
It lasted until she was 6 months and now her sleep is pretty hit and miss, but I'm hoping this is just a phase. I was worried too, but she seemed fine with it and the Dr was happy with it too.
Good luck and long may it continue!

Thanks all! My older DS was an appalling sleeper so I'm not used to the joy that is this sleeping baby! But it does mean that I'm very appreciative of it, and know all to well that it's not something to be taken for granted!

Apologies for the terrible grammar etc in the OP btw; ruddy iPad!

my DD started sleeping 8hr blocks at night from 4.5wks and is EBF. Around that time she was also awake a lot more during the day, started moving her body more, chattering and feeding more frequently during the day. With the exception of growth spurts, 8hrs is now the minimum she sleeps and it's usually 10-11hrs but she feeds really frequently during the day - every hour today and she's 16wks. Enjoy your sleep :)
