what time does your dc have nap when only one nap a day? DD 13MO

DD 13MO and we are struggling with moving from 2 naps to 1 nap. I have been trying to keep her nap in the afternoon, at 1- 2.30 (she won't extend naps past 1 hour 30 mins whatever time she has them) so that she isn't too tired at bedtime, but bedtime has become baaaad, with her struggling to sleep and waking early. Should I move her nap earlier? Would love to know what others are doing at this move from 2 naps to 1. thanks! x

Ds used to and dd does still 1030-1230. Ish. Sometimes its shorter. Sometimes its 1115 start.

I'd love an after lunch nap for me her but she just can't hold out that long. She's 18 months.

Ps is she wanting to drop the nap herself? Neither of mine went to one nap until 15-18m.

both mine went to 1 nap around 11 months. It started off around 11am and then gradually got pushed to after lunch (around 12.30pm).

I remember it was a bit of a revelation when I realised the one nap could be in the morning and that DS could go through the whole afternoon much better than he could go through the whole morning. At first the nap was at about 11, but by around 16 months it was at about 5 hours after he woke up, whatever time that was. That rule still sort of holds true now at 21 months (he was ready for a nap at 12.30 today having woken at 7.30) though he has had a few days when he didn't nap at all - eek!

I'm having issues with this as DS is 14 months and still not quite able to go with only one long nap.

He's up at 6.30am, then wants to go back to sleep at 9.30am, but if I let him, he only sleeps 40 mins and then can't sleep in the afternoon, despite being exhausted and grumpy from about 3pm until bedtime.

If I hold off the morning nap til 11am ish then he'll sleep for 1-2 hours and have lunch afterwards. He then is much happier in the afternoon and until bedtime.

It's tricky to balance, but maybe you could try delaying the morning nap by giving them a snack and drink when they look tired, which sometimes works with my DS.

Thanks all. I think it is just going to be a big juggling act at the moment. bornsickly can i ask what time you do bedtime if your LO only naps until early afternoon? I don't want to bring bedtime forward before 7pm as it interfers with her night sleep. thanks

DS is just 16mo and started one nap about 13mo. It's been tricky but I've found he sleeps up to 2hrs if he starts his nap around 11.30, 11am if he's got up before 6.

Bedtime is 7pm, but this week he's had trouble getting off to sleep Sad so is still up at 8.

BornSicky · 22/04/2012 10:16

Bedtime is around 7pm. So he's usually asleep by 7.30 at latest and sleeps through until 6.30am.

My DD is 13months and she has one nap during the day, 3-4hours after she's woken up. This is normally at 11 until around 2, and then bedtime at 7. She made the transition from 2 - 1 nap by herself, so maybe wait and see if your DD will gradually change it on her own?

ouryve · 22/04/2012 22:41

Mine both napped after lunch by that age.

Then completely dropped their naps by about 2 :o

Rubirosa · 22/04/2012 22:43

DS had to wait til 1pm for his nap from 13 months as he was in childcare in the morning. Generally wake at 7am, nap 1pm-3.30pm/4pm, bed at 8pm.

ds can drop off anytime from 11.30 to 2.30 and sleeps between 2 and 4 hours. Usually if he drops off about half 2 we try not to let him sleep past 5. He also goes to bed between 8 and 9, usually when he starts getting sleepy.
