DD has been self settling and sleeping through the night for the last couple of months and it has been pure bliss! Now she has got really fussy at settling, will only go down if someone stays in the room with her whilst she falls asleep and is waking early and sometimes crying in the night too :(

She was struggling going down for her first nap so I have cut that out and moved to one a day which has gone ok, but now on day 4 of this I have had to give her a morning nap again as she is exhausted as woke at 5am and wouldn't settle back to sleep.

She is also crying lots in the day as well. Don't think it's teething, she just seems so so sensitive right now.

Any ideas anyone? Thanks x

If you can rule out teeth, hunger, illness etc, it's most likely to be linked to her daytime sleeping in some way. What time does she now go down for her nap and how long is it?

well, everything is a bit of a mess right now. She WAS having two naps one at 9.45 for about 30mins and the other about 2-3 or a little longer. Now been trying to drop to one nap and she has been going down at 1 - 2.30. then bed at 7.30. I tried giving her an earlier nap (as she is tired by 11.30) and an earlier bedtime but that didn't work as she woke early which then threw the next day out for having one nap, as she seems to be stuck on 11 hours max at night, which was fine, but now it is less :(

i think it is hte whole transition to one nap in the day that is causing the problem. She isn't tired enough most days to have 2 naps which was making it hard for her to go down, but maybe 1 nap is not enough, and she won't extend the afternoon nap for linger than 1 hour 30mins. I don't know, really confused right now Confused

She may be ready to drop the MN, but 1hr30 at lunch is probably too short leading to overtiredness and disturbed nights. I think she struggles with the length of her nap because of this. I would put her down for her nap earlier, around 12 or 12.30 and aim for a 2 hr sleep eventually.

Thanks for your help. I'll try putting her down at 12 tomorrow. Today we have reverted back to 2 naps as she had gotten herself so tired and yet still woke at 5am. But she has had a good morning and afternoon nap today so probably tomorrow will resist the morning nap, so I'll wait until 12 and hopefully she'll sleep for longer than 1 hr 30.

Do you think having this nap she will still manage to hold out until her 7.30 bedtime. I don't want her to be overtired, but also, I don't want to put her down earlier as she won't sleep for longer than 11 hours at night (i've fiddled with bedtime lots of times as she used to be a really early waker)

thanks :)

I've always done a 7pm bedtime and once the daytime naps were sorted my DD started waking later and sleeping 12+ hrs. If she is overtired it may be worth trialling a 7pm bedtime combined with the earlier and hopefully longer nap to see what happens. By the way, I always found the key to success lies in consistency and perseverance. It took me 5 weeks of a new routine before I saw results but since then it's been brilliant!

Just thought Id say I know what you mean about your 13 month old being sensitive. DS has even developed this new, ear piercing cry and has gone from being a happy little soul to quite moany. I've started night weaning as the longest he was going without waking for a feed was 2 hours for a long time. we've had mixed success, a sleep through. Last night was bad and I gave in a little bit so now worried #i'll have to start again
