HELP! .....4month old awake from 3am to 5am!!!

My nearly 4 month old baby boy is so hard to get back to sleep after his 3.30am breastmilk... not crying, just very awake, "talking" loudly but also in a tired "grunting" way. I keep tucking him in, putting dummy back, rocking him and telling him to go back to sleep. He does eventually, but bloody hard loosing those hours sleep as dd1 wakes up at 6-6.30!! Any advice anyone? (I take him to my bed quietly to feed him, lying down.)

I'd leave him to it and try to get some sleep. If he isn't upset, he'll be fine. Perhaps rocking him and putting his dummy back might actually be helping keep him awake and, even if it isn't, leaving him to his own devices will get him used to night time being night time and give him the skill of getting back to sleep on his own.

Do I sound like a harsh Mummy?!

Thanks, Ponka. Good advice. Will try that tonight. I am just trying to get him back to sleep because I can't sleep when he is so "noisy"! -- as he sleeps in the same room as me. But you might be right: he might fall asleep quicker if left to it. Will try it tonight. Thanks.

Hope it goes alright. I remember DS being a bit unsettled at night for long periods of time around that age but I just left him to it if he was happy and he's turned out to be a good sleeper. It could be just a lucky fluke that he is such a good sleeper or it could be partly due to me leaving him to it unless he cried.

Sounds like the same kind of noises, too. I always thought he sounded like a little muttering old man, complaining about the world. Quite cute but very noisey!

Hope you get some sleep tonight!
