DS has recently given up his dummy and now just won't bloody sleep. He doesn't seem to have a way of relaxing and it's beyond a joke. PLEASE offer tips because I may have to resort to the book otherwise......

Have you seen the 'What worked for us. Hope this helps' thread? It is really worth checking out - it is about helping your LO to learn to relax on their own (with you there for reassurance).

It's enough to read the OP, you don't have to trawl through the whole thread to get the gist.

Good luck - I'd feel so helpless if my DS gave up his dummy! But he wakes up for it in the night, so it isn't wholly helpful.

Hi - How old is he? Did they give it up or was it your choice? I finally made my DS go cold turkey at 2.7 so he had lots of settling skills to fall back on by then but the daytime nap went out of the window INSTANTLY - he couldn't and wouldn't. The thread above is brilliant (still going) and would totally recommend it - depending on the age of your DS there may be different ways to help self-settle, but the thread mentioned covers most things - you need a firm/consistent way to teach him to self-settle whilst not letting him feel abandoned. It all works pretty quickly if you are up for it IMO! Good luck!

Thanks both. He's 2.4yo and it was during a bout of illness where he couldn't suck it because he had a poorly mouth that we gave it up and I just continued from there.

I'll have a look at the thread. Thank you.
