2 year old suddenly won't go to bed at night

My ds was 2 last week. He has always gone down at 6 and slept until 8 with a one hour nap around lunch time. The past week (5 nights) has been a nightmare. We've been doing the normal, bath, pjs, story, prayers and bed and as soon as we shut his door he started SCREAMING hysterically. We've tried warm milk, a spoonful of honey and even Piriton one night and nothing. He's still hysterical. We did Gina Ford with him and it worked from birth up until now. We've tried leaving his door open, and I've just ordered a night light from eBay so we can use that when it arrives, but it doesn't seem to be a fear of the dark just an unsettling that it's bed time. We've tried putting him to bed later, but he was just screaming for exactly 2 hours (the same as the other nights he's gone to bed at his normal bed time). We took him for a long walk yesterday and swimming today and have cut out his lunchtime nap so he is ready for bed. Not too sure what else to try.

We have a ds 14 weeks and it is imperative that he isn't disturbed at bed time, so far he hasn't bothered but I'm worried that it will eventually disrupt him. We have been doing self soothing as I don't want him to use this as a tool for attention. We have our OWN time with him when ds2 is napping for 2 hours at lunch time and ensure he isn't ever left out (as I'm breast feeding ds2).

I'm at a loss as to why he's screaming, any thoughts?

I think maybe you've just been very lucky up until now.

My Dts (2 1/2) will go straight to sleep at 7 only if they haven't had a nap at all during the day.

I wouldn't mention Gina Ford here...it seems to rile up the locals..

I think he is unsettled because he has a new sibling. And he's 2. And toddlers can't be programmed, no mater what SWMNBN claims.
