DS aged almost 3 now sleeps through from 8pm but consistently wakes up at 0500 or 0530. Lunchtime nap has been cut to maximum one hour (he goes some days without, but mostly seems to need a short one).

I am hoping someone with older DCs will come along and tell me that I only have to put up with this torture for another couple of months - magically, at the age of 3.6, say, he will start sleeping till 7??

So, is it gonna be 5am until he's 14, or will he start sleeping in a bit sooner?

Have you tried "it's not time to get up yet, go back to bed"? My 2.6 yo has been happy with that for months and either goes back to sleep or plays with the quiet toys we have in his room. I really don't mean to be smug but for us this sort of 'asking nicely'all really gets results in all areas - putting shoes on, acquiescing to teeth cleaning...!

another idea might be the gro-clock. 3 is definitely old enough to be given some control over deciding when to get up but channelling that into learning about time and clocks might be possible?

Sympathies for your early wakeups though. no fun.

Am with you, mrsbaldwin. My DS is only 2.5, so we have a long way to go yet...he also sleeps from 8 to 5. We go to bed at 9 most nights.

Gro-clock! That's something I haven't tried yet [goes off to Gro-Clock website, yawning]

When they start school.

IME anyway.

DD woke every day at 3am and gave up her naps at 1 year.

She's 10 now and I still haven't caught up on my sleep Grin

I stopped waking up full of energy & ready for the day at 5:30 when I had DD. Still awake from 5, obviously, just a bit more zombified than before.
