Awake all night and haven't even had my baby yet!

Hi all,

Needing some advice or help! I am SO tired, but when I go to bed at night I just seem to lie there all night semi awake, like I'm just resting, but not actually falling asleep. I am 24 weeks pregnant and am scared that it is just going to get worse as I get bigger and then I will never sleep again once my baby arrives! I am fit and healthy etc. The only thing I have noticed is that I can hear / feel my heart pounding away really fast when I lie down, but the midwife said this is just due to it working harder with the extra blood flow. Any advice would be so appreciated! Thanks.

Are you feeling anxious? It could be anxiety and that creeps in especially on a night. If you are then there are various things to help like reflexology ( which is also a treat when pregnant).

Oh and you will sleep again. Never quite so deeply as you develop a mothers sleep hearing.

Strangely enough I'm not anxious, I used to have insomnia and I would anxiously think about how little sleep I was getting and get more and more worried, but now I am quite calm, but just don't doze off! I am starting pilates and yoga, but will look into reflexology - thanks pancake!

I had that too. And the weird heartbeat thing - i could jear the blood pumping in my ears, most odd. Drove me mad when people said "stock up on sleep before you have the baby" - yeah right! I can't remember the timings, but I did have several phases of insomnia while pregnant. I will be honest, I slept particularly badly later on as I usually slept on my back and really struggled with sleeping on my side. I also got mega sore rib and hips. I slept on a folded up duvet in the end and used numerous cushions to prop me up as well as one of those genie pillows. Ironically I now mostly sleep on my left side! Wishing you sweet dreams...

Thanks fififrog I sure do hope it is just a phase!
