OK I give up...someone help me with my 7mth olds naps!

My DD is 7mths (6mths corrected) and has recently gone through a bit of a sleep regression. Nightimes she always goes down no problem and wakings are a bit random at the moment but thats another story.

I really want to sort her naps out its driving me mad. She's always been a sleep fighter but used to have 3 naps of 40mins each and was at least relatively easy to put down for the first 2. Now I'm lucky if she'll take 2 naps and they are getting shorter and shorter and its taking longer and longer to get her to go to sleep. Result - permanently tired and cranky baby, and my nerves are, frankly, shot. I do also wonder if her poor napping is the reason she keeps waking during the night now.

She is currently singing in her cot....I put her down after watching her display all the 'I'm knackered mum' signs.

Where am I going wrong?????

Just realised, probably not given enough info for anyone to help me....I do tend to pick her up after a while if it really sounds like she's not going to sleep. Have I taught her that if she shouts/sings/cries long enough I will come and get her???

Should I pick a specific time for naps and stick to it?

How many naps do others 6/7 mth olds have?

Frustratingly she is now whining but its a pathetic quiet whine that I know if I keave her she will probably drop off but we have to go out in 20 minutes. Aaaaaarrrgggghh!

Hello, my DS is now 8.5 months old and I have had various nap battles with him. Prolific 40 min-er until he got to six months and started to crawl properly. I can now expect a decent (up to 2 hours Shock) sleep in the morning about two hours after he wakes up. Then I put him down after lunch (ish) but prefer to wait for about three hours since last wake up.

I don't have fixed times for his naps, it always depends on what time he wakes up. But my only constants are that he's put down two hours after starting his day and he's fed milk every four hours from when he wakes up. So this means that things can change daily and sometimes the sod will only sleep for 40 mins...then I have to try and squeeze in a third nap!!

Don't beat yourself up about going to her. My DS has self settled since 9 weeks (polishes halo), but if he's REALLY sad I go and give him a hug/sing and then put him down again. This can be repeated up to four times some days, but more often than not he'll go off when I put him down.

When my DS started to struggle with the last nap I cut down to two...that was about a month ago?

Oh, and he sleeps through more times than he doesn't. Again though, crawling & cruising were the things that seemed to knacker him out.

Hope that helps x

I think mine went from 3 to 2 naps at about that age. He went through a patch of short (30min) naps as well, but now (8.5mo) seem to be getting longer again (1h+) thankfully. Currently put him down at 9ish and 2ish. Bedtime is 6, any later and he gets cranky.

However annoying it is, you know she is going to be doing something completely different in a month or two - they like to keep us on our toes!!
