Out of my bed! Out of my bed!

As you can see I'm tired! The lovely little man ( 8 months) has been sleeping in our bed from first wake up- sometimes 1, sometimes 5, so I can boob him off to sleep and this always works. However I would like to stop boobing as he has 6 (!) toothipegs and it bloody hurts if he nips. Also we want our bed back!
Last night we tried a dummy for the first time when he woke at 2.20 and it took til 4am for me to get him back down in his own bed. He then woke again at 5.30 and dh tried his best but brought him in to me. I fed him lying down and me and ds slept til 8.
Here are my questions, if you got this far...
Did bringing him in at 5.45 undo my hour and a half of patting shushing, taking down from the cor sides and lying down?
Will it get better?
How long did it take for you?
Should we persevere with the dummy? He didn't get it and we didn't want him to have one in the first place, but would do it if it was going to work.
Whaddya think then?
Eye fank yew
