DS, 10 y.o., for the past 2 weeks has either gone to bed at normal time - 8.30pm - and then not been able to get to sleep until 11 - 1am, or has gone to sleep and then woken up around midnight and then been awake for up to three hours, during which he'll start to get up and wander around, which has never happened before. Previously he'd go upstairs around 7.30pm, play/read for an hour and then get in bed and go to sleep. Sometimes it might have taken him til 9.30pm to get off but generally he'd be asleep by 9pm.

We've tried all tactics - softly, softy approach and also the strict, there's a penalty for this, type approach - but nothing is working so we are getting desperate. He doesn't seem to be particularly tired but I can't believe it's not having an effect on him or his school day, and it's certainly taking its toll on us. We've both had long chats with him about whether anything's bothering him, what's behind it etc but nothing has come to light.

So two things

  1. What is the normal time you'd expect a 10y.o. to go to bed and
  2. what would anyone suggest please to help him over this please?

Grateful TIA.
