Good sleeper turned bad! Sleep regression or transition to new cot/room?!

My dd is 8mo and about a week ago we reluctantly decided it was time to put her in her big cot in her own room.

Prior to this she was the perfect sleeper (almost), going to bed around 8pm and waking between 7-8am. If she did wake up she would usually settle herself within a minute or two. She was in our room in a little gliding cot thing. But she was running out of room in it. Also she has recently learned to sit independantly and is getting onto her knees getting ready to crawl, so I thought it would be safer for her to go into a proper cot. Also I'm returning to work this week and start early, so I thought if she could go in her own room we would not disturb each other!

The first night, she slept through as usual, and I was over the moon. But since, she has been gradually waking more and more during the night. Last night it was every 2-3hours. When I go in her room, she is either trying to get onto her knees, or occasionally sat up, and appears very upset and can take quite a while to settled back down.

Can anybody advise why this is suddenly happening? Is it because she is aware she is on her own? Is it due to having more room in the bed? She now rolls overs to sleep on her front whereas she used to always sleep on her back. Or is it a sleep regression?!

It could be a combination of things, but quite often their sleep goes to pot when they're practising a new skill, like sitting, crawling etc. They can't quite stop when they're asleep even!

9 months is a fabled sleep regression time, and when my DS's sleep went totally to pot - sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings Smile
