tell her that she can have the door open and landing light on... but she HAS to stay in bed. if she keeps getting up then you will shutt he door again

leave light on outside and door propped open. with ds I also have a little fisher price tape recorder and leave him listening to story tapes. I think they do feel fear, but it's best not to let them come downstairs.

hermykne · 10/01/2006 21:40

ok off to do that! thanks

Hmmm. my ds does this too. He's 3. Think they can become more afraid at this age as they are more aware of the world and stuff. However, they are also good at manipulating and knowing how to work us.

I think be firm but reassuring. She stays in bed. But you are not far away.

hermykne · 10/01/2006 21:42

aloha i lie the idea of the tape recorder that owuld distract their minds from the world as Northerner says

Agree, mine is 3 too. Just leave the light on and a pile of books on the bed and the light goes OFF if any naughtiness.

starlover · 10/01/2006 21:43

also tell her you will come up and check she is ok in 5 mins.
but only if she stays in bed... eventually she will fall asleep

I got mine from Ebay and ds goes to sleep listening to Mog or Spot etc. Sometimes, if I'm really knackered and on my own, he gets them INSTEAD of a story by me.

crazydazy · 10/01/2006 21:45

My 3 year old DS is scared of going to the toilet on his own and I have to sit with him until he falls asleep usually but since they went back to school his sister has also been going to bed at the same time and tonight he let me leave him and have a bath.

Its definitely a stage, I remember DD being exactly the same. Story is a really good idea.

morningpaper · 10/01/2006 21:46

Music good too

Mine likes Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan, the Beatles, Carpenters, Mozart - all quite chilled and suitable for the bedtime hour.

hermykne · 10/01/2006 21:46

aloha i was just about to check ebay!
thanks all

In fact I posted a thread in behaviour yesterday about my ds not being able to entertain himself anymore and following me everywhere. But no one answered it.
