how to get DS to sleep in bed from cot

My DS is 20 mths and 3 weeks ago started to refuse to go to bed. He would scream when we tried to take him to his room. We perservered and just left him to cry unitl he fell asleep. However 2 weeks ago he climbed out of his cot and got a nastly bump on his head and we ended up spending a night in A&E. We were worried he would do it again so got a toddler bed. But he now will not sleep at all. I cannot get him to go down and when he does eventually fall asleep (usually on my lap) he wakes at about 1/2am and stays awake until about 6/7. Myself and DP are absolutely shattereed. CC worked really well at 10 months and he slept brilliantly in his cot until 3 weeks ago. I can't get him to stay in his bed to do CC again. Any advice would be gratly appreciated. i'm at my wits end and can't see any light at the end of the tunnell!!!

I can't offer much advice but our ds is 27 mos & the only reason why he's still in his cot is because he's in a body cast, poor fellow!

However, when he started at the crèche in October he had to learn to sleep on a matress on the floor along with all the other 2 yr olds. It took him several weeks to be able to fall asleep but eventually got used to it and/or wore himself out enough to "crash" anywhere.

We will be getting him a "big boy bed" in about a month & I know that I will put a guard on it to keep him from rolling out. Maybe your ds would feel more secure with a guard? It fits under the matress & is usually a light mesh or plastic slats. Do you know what I'm talking about?

We have a guard on it but he just crawls out of the end of the bed. I think i will have to do the CC and just hope that he gets fed up with getting out and screaming at the door. I can't see him crawling back into bed if i leave him though. He just seems to be hysterical as soon as i leave the room. He was never like this before.
I was off work for 2 weeks at xmas so he was at home with me and i think his routine is a bit messed up. He is back at the childminders today so hopefully he will settle back down this week.
