hi there - I know this is not quite a 'sleep' question but I need help desperately. - thanks in advance. DS is 3 and a half months and for the past week has had a miserable cold. Today this was joined by a really hoarse throat which I can only imagine is as sore as it sounds . He hasn't got a temp but is crying a lot - making his hoarse throat even worse. His cot has been been raised at one end and we have tried steaming him. We gave him calpol earlier and will prob give him some more before bed (i know we shouldn't give it as he hasn't got a temp but I don't know what else to do to ease his pain). Does anyone know what we could do to help the poor mite? Can't get to the doc's until Monday

If your dh/dp can get to an emergency pharmacist (any local shop should have details of the one that's open late on their door, they work it in a rota) try buying some Medised. Paracetamol plus antihistamine, more effective for a rotten cold. Also get some baby balsam (like Vicks, for putting on his chest). Also try essential oil-y stuff - ask the pharmacist about this but a few drops of olbas oil in a burner or in his steamer might help.

Poor love, I know how miserable it is when they get colds when they are this tiny.

Also, this is probably not advised, but we did end up letting ds sleep in his car seat, so he was more upright. I know they aren't supposed to be in them for more than a couple of hours at a time, but it was the only way he could get to sleep.
