Afternoon nap - what time would you let them nap to?

If your baby's bedtime was 7pm (nearly 6 mo), what is the latest you would let them nap to? My little one is an awful sleeper - day and night so am reluctant to wake him even when he naps late on but my other friends say he then wont sleep at night...

well, question is do you let him sleep late in the afternoon and does he sleep at night? Have been debating same thing myself but i think generally with my DD (4 m) it doesn't make much difference even if she sometimes sleeps till 6ish. Mind you, Her bedtime aren't as reliable as I'd like.

With my ds it makes no difference really. He napped till 5.30pm the other day. The only problem was then he wanted both his bottles (normally 4 & 7pm) and daddy playtime and bath all before his 7.30 pm bedtime. A rush for me but the boy didn't mind. Still slept 7.30 till 7am with just one wake up (normal for us at the mo!) DS is 17 weeks by the way.

I have found it doesn't make a difference really to night time sleeping and that actually a "power nap" late afternoon can make DD settle better at night because she is not overtired.

That said I do try to not let her sleep past about 5.00 but mainly so she can have her tea (DD is nearly 9mo so maybe not the same for you).

Just see how you go for a few days - you could always push bedtime back by half an hour or so.

5pm.

For us, it depends on how napping has gone in the day. On average, she's asleep by 7pm (nearly 8 months), but if she has a later nap, say 4.30pm to 5pm, it's usually 7.40pm (on the dot!). DD seems to have two main patterns: hope this helps - times are still give or take 15 mins either side:

Wakes 7am, naps 9am-10am, naps 11.30am-12.15pm, naps 4pm-4.30pm, bed at 7.40pm.

Wakes 7am, naps 9.45/10am-11.15am, naps 1pm-2pm or joy, 3pm, bed 6.45pm.
