Duvets and pillow - what age?

DD is 21 months old though only just 9kg. At what age can we look at getting her a duvet/pillow? At the moment she's in 6-18 month sleeping bags.

She's had a heavy cold recently and I was thinking that sleeping with her head raised might help her breath a bit.

they are both considered ok from 1 year. Ds likes olbas oil on a hanky put into his pillow case at night as it helps him to breathe (when he has a blocked nose). We also use a plug in karvol vaporiser.

DD1 got a duvet & pillow when she moved into her bed aged 2, but I think they are fine from age 1.

Re the snotty nose, have you tried books under the head of her bed? We (I) love olbas oil too & have just bought a "vapourisor" which appears to be a small fan which blows over a stick soaked in olbas oil!

Thank for the replies.

DD (and I) have both been having olbas oil on a tissue in our rooms as I've also caught the cold. Its good poor DD does seem whenever she gets a cold to start coughing and then be sick in her bed a lot which doesn't help her. I might try raising her bed a bit with books.

Stupid question but where can you get pillows/duvets for toddlers from? Just mothercare?

I just used a normal sized flattish pillow and a single sized duvet although mine didnt get a duvet until they went into a bed - they were in grobags until then. Ds stayed in a grobag until 2 1/2 years but had a pillow from before then

DD1 is in a toddler bed but has a single sized pillow & duvet as i wasn't sure how ling she'd be in it & didn't want to have to (potentially) buy all new bedding in a few months time!
I got a cheapy "value" pillow from the supermarket (as I didn't want a big thick one) and a 2.5tog duvet from Next (coz I wanted a light one for the summer)

Just to hi-jack here, what tog duvet do you recommend for winter and toddler sized bed - 4.5 or 7?

CurlyCasper · 16/09/2011 20:22

My daughter (15 months) has a sleeping bag and standard pillow combination, which is great because she is sick in her cot when she coughs too hard as well. And the Olbas oil definitely works.

Thanks for all the replies.

I might be looking a pillow this weekend then. Her cold is much improved now anyway - though I'm very bunged up!

I was wondering the same as BsshBossh actually - what tog for a cotbed? As the sleeping bags all seem so thin.

the maximum recommended tog for a cotbed is 4.5 tog whereas for a single bed it is 10.5 tog (something to with the relative surface area covered by the child)
