Hi

My 13week old settles into her cot fine and is asleep by 7:30pm to 8pm. But once she wakes up it is nightmare getting her back to sleep again. She used to wake up at 2am and then 5am for feeds. For the past few weeks she has been waking up at 10pm then practically every hour or so. I (breast) fed her each time for a week but then thought that she surely cannot hungry each time so now we've settled on a cuddle alternating with feeds. I end up taking her into bed and then try to put her back into her cot when she is asleep. She always wakes up though and the process starts again. She is brilliant at going in her cot at 7:30pm but won't go back down after. I am exhausted as my 4 1/2 year old son wakes up too and wants me to go into his room. My husband works wierd shift hours in the early mornings or nights so he can't help as he isn't often here.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks. LL

Possibly having a growth spurt and so yes, needs the extra feeds. Just a thought. You must be wrecked

ds started waking up repeatedly during the night at about 14 weeks. Like you, after a week or so of this, I felt that he wasn't hungry (as he wasn't necessarily taking much at each feed and would barely touch his 7am feed), but instead just needed help settling. What we decided was that if he woke before a certain time, eg 1am then we would settle him, after that we would feed him once, after that we would settle him. Settling him was sometimes an uphill struggle to begin with. Gradually we extended the time from 1am to 3am to 5am and finally cut out feeding at night (other than the dreamfeed). It took a couple of weeks from memory.

Sounds very much like a growth spurt to me - I'd suggest upping the feeds during the day to ensure she has enough calories to last through the night??

And when she does wake in the night just sooth her back to sleep I reckon - I know they are taboo but we use a dummy - and got our little man through a few night wakings with one...and I upped his bottles by 1oz 4 times a day and it sorted it out after a few nights...

Hope that helps - it did for us at the 7 week growth spurt..
