I did last year when DS was 8 weeks old. It was £65 then (I believe it is alot more now?). She was very good and easy to talk to and there was no clock watching by her..spoke to her a number of times over the week and found it useful and worth that money (not sure if I would pay any more though?)

futurity · 01/10/2003 13:20

why are you considering it...post on here any problems as alot of people have "been there..done that!"

ThomCat · 01/10/2003 13:25

My friend rang and was toild to stop being such a silly girl!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, like futurity says - sort of, sod Gina, what does she know anyway?!!, that's what Mumsnet is for!!

Mingles · 01/10/2003 13:30

God No!!!!!

Enid · 01/10/2003 13:33

I havent but a friend of mine did and she was very kind and helpful apparently.

Lamin · 01/10/2003 19:04

Considering it because my 5 month old DS has never sleept thru more than 5 consecutive nights despite being model Gina baby during the day and I just can't work out why. Am sure it must be something to do with balance of milk vs solids and don't want to bore everyone to death with intricacies of my DS's eating habits! Also have been watching the "baby up for sale" thread and feel slightly truculant (sp?) posting about my probs when they aren't really that bad (he probably sleeps thru 4 out of 7 nights).

yes! and so you may! gRRRRRRRRRRRR

codswallop · 01/10/2003 19:08

pa lamin- its just babies. He will sleep. I would have a facial with the money instead.

bobsmum · 01/10/2003 19:17

Lamin - read the Gina transcript on the Mumsnet home page (somewhere down the bottom right hand side). I found that it plus the book helped. I also found a lot of Gina loopholes after reading the book thoroughly - she seems to hide some bits of extra advice in other chapters. Without wishing to line her pocket further, I did find the "contented baby to confident child" a lot more useful. it doesn't have as much detail on the routines, but it's much easier to read and she backs up her theories and thoughts a lot better than in "contented little baby". She goes into detail about other baby expert's opinions. Considering a sub to Mumsnet is a tenner and the other Gina book is possibly £7/8 I would do that rather than fork out potentially over £70 for a week (!)

There are plenty of Mumsnetters who have successfully used the CLLB routines who could offer advice for nowt It worked really well for ds, but I would personally find her far to scary to speak to "in the flesh".

And yes I'm sure she does have flesh and probably a reflection too.

Lamin, my dd is just over 4 months and had a brief spell when she was about 12 weeks of sleeping from 6pm til about 6am. Now she goes down at 6 and wakes at around 4am only. She's totally bf. I don't think you need to worry too much about all this sleeping through stuff as long as you aren't feeling too tired yourself. You can tie urself in knots, changing your routine, wondering if weaning will be the answer to ur prayers etc. etc. As long as you're both happy and reasonably rested, it's time to chil out and take Cods advice and get a facial!!!

pupuce · 01/10/2003 19:18

Bloss did (and was VERY happy with the many contacts) and I understand she now charges £125 !!!!
Please do tell us if you ring and how much she charges.

Mingles · 01/10/2003 19:18

...Not suggesting you NEED a facial...just meant, spend it on 'you' time!!!!

codswallop · 01/10/2003 19:21

mingles......

Mingles · 01/10/2003 19:24

blushing yes....?!!!

wobblyknicks · 02/10/2003 12:40

for that money you could buy yourself a few good 'audio books' to relax to while you're doing all the feeding, some huge boxes of chocs to cheer yourself up, a good diet book for when you decide the boxes of chocs have stuck around too much, a couple of years subscription to Mumsnet (where you can get the best advice!), some new eye cream to hide the fact that you have to get up in the night AND a couple of good sleep/food advice books!

So would you rather have all that or a few chats to Gina?? Sod Gina IMHO!!!

oliveoil · 02/10/2003 12:51

She (GF) did an interview in the Times the other day and she actually came across as ok, felt a bit sorry for her as she wanted loads of kids and didn't meet the right man to have them with.

I wouldn't phone her for advice, all babies are different and each day/night differs too just to wide you up even more when you think you have things sorted. Go with the flow is my motto.

oliveoil · 02/10/2003 12:53

wind even. Although wide fits quite well too after pregnancy and birth

newgirl · 02/10/2003 13:16

3 extra nights sleep a week sounds like WELL worth the money to me! far better than a facial. i've had friends spend that on cranial osteopathy, aromatherapy, birth pools, fancy high chairs that recline, oshkosh trousers and other such things, so why not go for it, if it will make you feel like you've tried everything? it sounds like you have got it pretty sussed anyway, so i would worry that the advice will last about one minute! could be good though!!

maomao · 02/10/2003 17:35

I dunno, Gina worked for me --- I read The Contented Little Baby Book and found I was ready to go to sleep at 7 p.m. on the dot!

Lamin · 06/10/2003 12:36

Just come back from long weekend at my mums to read all these messages - made me laugh. DS behaved beautifully - broken his personal best and now done 8 nights on the trot. HURRAH. I have to admit to owning all Gina's books (including new one on sleep published 18 Sept)as am complete self confessed control freak. Codswallop and mingles - you will be pleased to know I am off to Champneys this weekend, courtesy of journo friend, so should be looking a bit better come Monday!
