Does anyone know if any research to back-up/refute the notion of a big meal before bed...

...making a baby/child sleep better/longer at night.

My MIL had been giving me grief about numerous things but one of them is that she is adamant that DS should have a massive meal before bedtime and in order to make him sleep better and that I should make him eat more in the evening. As he isn't a big eater to begin with and particularly doesn't like eating much in the evening, this is impossible. (She also blame my breastfeeding him still as a major contributor)

I'm not interested in anecdotal evidence, there is plenty of that to be had, just whether there has been any proper research into this old wife's tale.

Tried it. Doesn't work!
Some babies sleep well, others don't.

I honestly have tried everything to get a full night. DS is 8.5 months and wakes twice a night (on a good night!)

How old is he?

My DS is 16 months old. Yes, I agree, nothing works, bar ear-plugs Grin.

But I want to be able to tell her so with some unrefutable research!

The amount of people that told me to give DS a little baby rice before bed to help him sleep... honestly!

Just go with your instincts, My mum breastfed my sister till she was 2.5! She slept through when she was 9months.

Turning the baby monitor off works too... I do this at 5am when DS wants a chat! He always goes back to sleep :)
