Day 3 of shush pat for naps - have a question....

Have been shush patting my nearly 5m old dd for naps. Today has been worse, not because of screaming - in fact the opposite- she blows raspberries, looks around, chews hands, rubs eyes, has a grumble and on and on, this morning it took an hour before she fell asleep, it's now been 45 mins for this one and I've given up sitting patting non-crying baby and come downstairs for a break. Just wondering how long you go on for before giving in and getting them up for a while? - if she was crying lots I would after 1/2 hour or so, but she's not. Also if she is just burbling as described above should I stay and shush pat anyway or leave the room until she gets upset then go in and continue?

I would leave the room until she has a cry and try again. The shush pat is supposed to distract them from crying and get them to calm themselves down when they are tired and get them relaxed and sleepy.

Thanks for that sedgiebaby was getting a bit frustrated, from now on will go and relax with a cuppa do something productive while she practices sleep avoidance.
